Sweet Summertime

I MADE IT. All A’s and my snow cones. I had my cake and now I can eat it too. Vacation Bible School starts tomorrow, then off to Winshape Camps for two weeks, then POLAND. Me and eight others from my church will be headed to Poland during the week of the Fourth of July. I’ll be outside in the heat doing Rec with school and church kids while we are there. I’m so ready to combine my two loves, sunshine and kiddos, for Jesus! Pray that these kids will have a better understanding of the vast love of Jesus after we leave! I’ll post the beautiful photographs sometime in July.

No Shampoo. The Most Epic-est of Fails. And everything in between.

May I say that I did give it a try. I went a whole two weeks rubbing baking soda in my hair until I convinced myself that Tresemme wasn’t all THAT bad. I’m not a huge risk taker when it comes to my outward appearance. So hey, I tried. I just decided it ain’t for me. Or anybody else who just loves that soapy suds feeling working in your roots.

I have TWELVE DAYS of school left until SUMMER! I honestly do not know if I’m going to be able to hold my head above the water until then. My grades have cumulatively all dropped about three points, my teachers make me want to pull my hair out and then smile so they will give me good grades, and snow cones by the pool are calling my name over the loud speaker. Stressed is the understatement of the month. There are no words to describe the inner warfare of my thoughts between summer and keeping an A+. Have a nice rest of the month. I’ll be hibernating in my room trying to study.

Somebody give me a snow cone,

No Shampoo...?

Week 1

(This post assumes you already know what “No Poo” is. If you have never heard of it or are confused at any time during this post, please reference this blog)

So this past Saturday (2/16/13), I was bored. Normally, my boredom leads to endless scrolling on Pintrest. I found this random post that said “Never Using Shampoo Again”. like what? Heck no I’m not going without shampoo. But, out of my previously mentioned bordem, I clicked on the link. And about an hour later, I was mixing up concoctions to substitute for shampoo.

Now, I would like to say everything I’ve EVER tried off pintrest ALWAYS FAILS. ALWAYS. It never works. But I researched the whole no shampoo thing on a TON of different blogs. I washed my hair with the baking-power-and-vinegar-crazy-person stuff and it made my hair SO CLEAN. I was EXTREMELY surprised. I wash my hair 6 days out of 7. And as you know , with no pooing, you are only supposed to wash it every 2-3 days. I will definitely be doing the 2 day thing. I am NOT going three days without washing my hair. I am in high school. We highschoolers wash our hair. Today is the first day (2/17) without washing my hair (I washed my hair yesterday 2/16). It’s still pretty clean. I don’t see or feel greasiness. That’s a major shock. Tomorrow I shall wash my hair again in the baking-soda-and-vinegar-crazy-person stuff. I’m giving it four weeks to work. Then I’m going back to my beloved Tresemme.

Somebody pinch me, I must be crazy.

“I beg you that when I come I may not have to be as bold as I expect to be toward some people who think that we live by the standards of this world. For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds!” —2 Corinthians 10:2-4

Dear My Church,

Our youth pastor was let go. And until we fully accept that sentence, God cannot move on with his plan for our new season. Our youth pastor is not our youth group.. when he leaves the most important aspect still remains.. OUR SOVEREIGN GOD IS ON THE THRONE. OUR SOVEREIGN GOD IS IN CONTROL. I do believe GREAT, AMAZING, UNBELIEVEABLE things are about to happen with this youth group. So we HAVE to unite together and we MUST make EVERY effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.. (Eph 4:3).. so that God can do immeasurably MORE than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us. (Eph 3:20) GET READY FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH DOTHAN. ITS COMING. AND ITS RELENTLESS.

“O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water. I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory. Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands. My soul will be satisfied with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you. On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night. Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me. They who seek my life will be destroyed; they will go down to the depths of the earth. They will be given over to the sword and become food for jackals. But the king will rejoice in God; all who swear by God’s name will raise him, while the mouths of liars will be silenced.” —Psalm 63

So since we are receiving an unshakable kingdom, let us offer worship to God in devotion and awe, FOR OUR GOD IS A CONSUMING FIRE.

“The Christian Way is harder, and easier. Christ says ‘Give me All’. He doesn’t want so much of your time and so much of your money and so much of your work: He wants You. He has not come to torment your natural self, but to kill it. Half measures are not good enough. He doesn’t want to cut off a branch here and a branch there, He wants to have the whole tree cut down. He doesn’t want to drill the tooth, or crown it, or stop it, but to have it out. Hand over the whole natural self, all the desires which you think are innocent as well as the ones you think are wicked—the whole outfit. He will give you a new self instead. In fact, He will give you Himself: my own shall become yours.” —C.S. Lewis

“I want to be a woman who lives totally abandoned to the first commandment. To love my Lord, my God, with all my heart. I don’t want the reputation that I love God, I don’t want to write songs about loving God, I don’t want to talk about loving God. I want to actually love God. When I close my eyes, I want my heart to move. When I close my eyes and I look at Him, I want to feel alive on the inside. I want to look at Him with a fire in my heart and it’s real.” —Misty Edwards

“If you should see a starving man standing with mouth open to the wind, inhaling draughts of air as if in hope of gratifying his hunger, you would think him a lunatic. But it is no less foolish to imagine that the soul can be satisfied with worldly things which only inflate it without feeding it.” —Bernard of Clairvaux (1090-1152)

“The Christian life can be explained only in terms of Jesus Christ, and if your life as a Christian can still be explained in terms of you – your personality, your willpower, your gift, your talent, your money, your courage, your scholarship, your dedication, your sacrifice, or your anything – then although you may have the Christian life, you are not yet living it.” —Ian Thomas

“And now compelled by the Holy Spirit, I am going to Jerusalem, not knowing what will happen to me there. I only know that in every city the Holy Spirit warns me that prison and hardship are facing me. However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me- the task of testifying to the gospel of God’s grace.”

“How can you, logically, pass magnificent creations [humans] everyday and deny the existence of God? Furthermore, how can you, logically, sit through a science class and deny the existence of God? “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. As Scripture says, ‘Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.’ For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile- the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, ‘Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’ How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: ’BEAUTIFUL ARE THE FEET OF THOSE WHO BRING GOOD NEWS!’”   Romans 10:9-15
